Karl is a chartered professional engineer with 8 years’ experience and has a strong background in hydro power stations, commissioning and transformers. Karl previously worked for Contact Energy at the Clyde and Roxburgh Dams, within this role he was responsible for a 5 year project involving the replacement of fifteen 17MVA single phase transformers at Roxburgh power station. Karl is known for his technical ability and outgoing attitude, this has been recognised by the EEA after receiving a merit award for his presentation of his paper at the 2016 EEA conference.
Power Systems Modelling & Protection
Hans is a Principal Engineer within the Mitton ElectroNet’s Transmission Team and has a wide range of experience in the Transmission & Distribution industries. Hans undertakes project management, primary, secondary and communications design with specialist knowledge in power system protection. A qualified Electrical Engineer with his Masters in Electrical Power and Energy Systems, Hans possesses a robust experiential background of more than two decades in electrical system design, power system protection, substation automation, automatic analysis systems and automatic control systems
Robin has over 10 years industry experience, specialising primarily in high voltage substation design. Recent projects include new builds and upgrades of transmission and distribution substations, capacitor banks, protection & SCADA systems. Robin has also previously been involved in earth grid design & testing, and published papers on earthing safety.

Maulik joined MEL after graduating with a BE(Hons) degree from the University of Canterbury in 2012. Maulik has been part of the substation design team since his commencement at MEL. He has been involved with secondary design on Transpower’s 33 kV outdoor to indoor conversion projects and he has recently undertaken several transformer replacement projects. He has carried out earth testing in and around NZ and Australia to gain valuable site experience and he is also proficient at using CYMCAP, a cable rating software.
Nathan Rich oversees our South Island Distribution team and has a strong background in protection systems.
Rebecca has nine years’ experience in the Electric Power Transmission industry, being involved since graduating from University in late 2009. Her experience includes protection and operational support, secondary circuit design, protection settings, Power Factory modelling, on-site support for 11kV switchgear installations, investigation and documentation of solution study reports and production of Transpower TEES cost estimates.
Brad is a senior power system’s engineer with 11 years experience. He previously worked for DIgSILENT, the developers of PowerFactory and StationWare software which is used widely throughout the world for power system modelling and analysis. Through this role, Brad was responsible for delivering software training courses in these two products and the development of the Australian and NZ training syllabus.
Martin is a Chartered Engineer with more than 35 years’ experience in the power industry. Martin trained as a graduate apprentice with Reyrolle Switchgear in Newcastle-on-Tyne before working in the switchgear industry in South Africa. He has extensive protection and substation experience at voltages up to 132kV, gained during his 23 year career at the Port Elizabeth Municipality, eventually being in charge of the Technical Branch as an Assistant City Electrical Engineer. Martin joined Mitton ElectroNet after emigrating to New Zealand in 2002 and has been extensively involved in the spec
Soumen has over nine years’ experience in the power industry in India, Australia and New Zealand. He has undertaken electrical designs for thermal power plants in India and has undertaken secondary substation design projects (protection and control) as well as power system studies at a transmission and distribution level.
Rachel is an electrical engineer with six years’ experience in New Zealand and Canadian power industries. She has worked on a range of projects including earth grid injection testing and design, power system and induction studies and construction management. Rachel has experience as the design lead for substation protection and control upgrade projects and more recently as the design lead for substation primary design.
